Important Meeting on February 4
Update on our Mt Rose committee: The over crowding committee will be completing tours of the school during classes on 2/17. No final decisions will be made until the fall. No programs will be cut this coming year.
Here are two letters about an important meeting scheduled for February 4, 2016. This is the meeting to attended regarding funding and having money for portables and buildings.

As you know, the Legislature passed Senate Bill 411, last session, which created the Public Schools Overcrowding and Repair Needs Committee. That committee has been meeting, and they have decided to put a measure on the ballot this November. If it passes, it would fund school construction and repairs in the Washoe County School District. Now they need to decide the content of the ballot question. At the meeting this week, Thursday February 4th at 6pm in the Washoe County Administrative Complex (1001 E. Ninth Street, Building A), they plan to decide which type(s) of tax increase will be in the ballot question: a sales tax increase, or a combination of sales and property tax increases (the past minutes and some audio are available at its website here http://washoeschoolsovercrowdingcommittee.weebly.com/meetings-and-agendas.html).
I would like to encourage all concerned members of the public and parents to attend and testify in support of such a ballot question that would provide funding to build and repair schools! Specifically, if people would support 1) an increase in the sales tax, or 2) a combination of an increase in the sales tax and property tax, it would be really helpful if they could say so on the record to help the members decide which direction to go. Even if folks do not want to testify but want to learn more, I am told there will be a good overview of the committee's progress to date and the options they are considering. Here is the agenda: http://washoeschoolsovercrowdingcommittee.weebly.com/uploads/5/8/9/0/58901359/2016_2_4_psorn_agenda_draft_v3.pdf For those looking for statistics or information about the overcrowding situation, this site has some presentations and fact sheets http://www.washoeschools.net/domain/640
I hear that it may be live streamed on the Washoe County website, but since it isn't mentioned on the agenda, I do not know for sure. For those who can't make and want to try streaming it, they could try here https://www.washoecounty.us/mgrsoff/news/wctv-live.php
I hope this information is helpful. I will be there too, so maybe I will see you or others there!

Subject: overcrowding -- important meeting
Good Afternoon,
As community members who have attended a WCSD overcrowding meeting, we wanted to alert you to an important upcoming meeting. The community group that can place a ballot question on 2016 General Election, The Public Schools Overcrowding and Repair Needs Committee, is holding a public meeting this Thursday evening (agenda and info HERE) to get input on the two options they are considering placing on the ballot.
This committee, as you may remember, is entirely separate from the District – it was formed by state legislation, and it’s members were picked by various groups in the community, with no voting representation from the District. The District by law cannot advocate for or against ballot questions, however, we are required to provide administrative support to this committee as it decides on the question to be put in front of voters.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Best,
Riley

Contacts and Research Tabs
I have added a lot of great information onto two new tabs. They're kind of hidden if you're looking at the blog on a phone, so I wanted to give everyone a heads up. Please look for the "Home" line with a little arrow at the end. It's at the top of the page. If you touch the little arrow, you can select the other two tabs and get all the info on the Board of Trustee's (find out who represents you) and read some of the research that supports our school as a model for others to follow!

Overcrowding Committee to be Formed!
Just got this from Krissy:
Hi everyone! I just received word that our overcrowding proposal for an extension to allow us more time has been approved! So...we will be forming a parent and staff overcrowding committee (approx 6 people) to meet either bi-weekly, or monthly to come up with a plan for Mt Rose. I'm meeting with district officials right after Thanksgiving then we will let you know how the committee will be formed. Thank you for all of your support! I'm truly thankful for our awesome school and all of you!! Enjoy your Thanksgiving everyone!!
